Bees Shake Up Roster

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League today announced several transactions as the team heads into the All Star break and prepares for its upcoming six-game road trip.

The Killer Bees have traded goaltender Jeff Van Nynatten to the Mississippi RiverKings in exchange for defenseman Bernie Chmiel (shmeel) and acquired center Danny Lapointe from the Oklahoma City Blazers in exchange for future considerations. The Bees also waived forward Jared Silver.

Lapointe is a 6-foot-1, 200 pound Victoria, B.C., native who appeared in two games with the Blazers. The 23-year-old played the last two seasons with the University of Calgary and also spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with Seattle, Portland, Prince George and Spokane. In 231 WHL games, he posted 92 points (29-63-92) and 360 PIM.

Chmiel, 25, appeared in 24 games for the RiverKings and collected three assists (0-3-3) and 15 PIM in 24 games. The 6-foot, 205-pound Pittsburgh native spent last season in the ECHL with Wheeling where he posted six points (2-4-6) and 28 PIM in 59 games. He played four years of NCAA Division 1 hockey at Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, Conn., from 2002-06.

The Killer Bees begin a six-game road trip this Friday at North Richland Hills when they face the Texas Brahmas at 7:05 p.m.
