RiverDogs Sweep Doubleheader with 5-4 Game Two Win

Charleston, S.C. - Anderson Feliz came on as a defensive replacement in the top of the fifth and hit a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to vault the RiverDogs to a 5-4 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (42-46, 7-11) in game two of the doubleheader on Sunday at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Ballpark.

After going without a run in game one, the Shorebirds scored two early runs in the first inning. Charleston starter Steve Evarts retired the first two hitters and then issued a walk to Ty Kelly. Mike Flacco followed with a double right down the left field line to score Kelly. Flacco came into score on a wild pitch to lift the Shorebirds to a 2-0 lead.

The RiverDogs jumped in front in the bottom of the second. Kyle Higashioka hit a leadoff solo homer over the left field scoreboard, his second homer of the year. Ramon Flores followed with a single and later in the inning stole second base. Then, Garrison Lassiter hit a double down the right field line to tie the game at 2-2. Mike Ferraro singled to score Lassiter, which gave Charleston a 3-2 lead.

The Shorebirds regained the advantage in the fourth. Adam Gaylord drew a leadoff walk. Then, Garabez Rosa blistered a triple into the right-center field gap to score Gaylord. Then, Mikey Planeta hit a sacrifice fly liner into right field to score Rosa to give the 'Birds a 4-3 lead.

In the fourth inning, Lassiter walked to leadoff. After a wild pitch moved Lassiter to second, Mike Ferraro doubled Lassiter home to tie the game. In the fifth, Luis Noel recorded two quick outs. Then, Feliz blasted his fourth homer of the season over the right field wall to give Charleston a 5-4 lead.

The Shorebirds went scoreless over the final two innings against reliever Aaron Dott, who picked up the save.

Steve Evarts (1-2) earned the win over five innings while Luis Noel (5-10) was tagged with the loss over 4.2 innings.

Cameron Roth tossed 1.1 hitless and scoreless innings for the Shorebirds.

The Shorebirds lost 2-0 in game one of the doubleheader.

The Shorebirds return to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Tuesday, July 12 for game one of a seven-game homestand against the Asheville Tourists.
