Lakewood Drops Series Finale 5-3 to Kannapolis

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws fell behind early, and just couldn't make it all the way back as they fell 5-3 to the Kannapolis Intimidators on Sunday. Lakewood was held without a hit until the 5th inning, and got outhit 9-6 in the game by Kannapolis. The Intimidators were on top 2-0 after 3 innings and led 4-0 after 5 1/2 innings of play, and they held on for the 5-3 victory.

BlueClaws starter Garett Claypool was tagged for 4 runs on 8 hits over 5 innings and picked up the loss to fall to 3-4 on the year. Mario Hollands pitched well allowing 1 run on just 1 hit over 3 innings. Then Zach Duke came on and made his BlueClaws debut pitching a perfect top of the 9th for Lakewood.

Paul Burnside started for Kannapolis and threw 5 2/3rds innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits before giving way to reliever Terance Marin. Marin was untouchable sitting down all 10 batters he face in order with 4 strikeouts to collect his first save of the year. Travis Mattair was the only BlueClaw with a multi-hit game as he went 2-4 with a double. And, Cameron Rupp had another big hit for Lakewood with a 2-out, 2 RBI single in the 6th innings.

The BlueClaws are off on Monday as they will hit the road and head to Greenville, SC for a 4 game series against the Greenville Drive beginning on Tuesday. Righty Lisalberto Bonilla (0-2, 1.49 ERA) will start for Lakewood on Tuesday with Righty Charle Rosario (5-1, 3.53 ERA) starting for Greenville. First Pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
