Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Asheville, NC - For the first time all season, the Augusta GreenJackets are back at .500. Augusta scored nine of their ten runs in the last four innings, picking up a come-from-behind 10-2 victory against the Asheville Tourists.
The win gives the GreenJackets their first four-game sweep of the year and four straight wins is now a season-long for the GreenJackets. Augusta finishes their season series with the Tourists, winning eight of 12 against Asheville.
The GreenJackets jumped out to a first inning lead, putting runners at second and third on a walk and a double. A wild pitch from Asheville starter Peter Tago brought Raynor Campbell home from third to give Augusta a 1-0 lead. Tago settled down after that, retiring the next 13 hitters of the game. The GreenJackets didn't get another baserunner until receiving back-to-back walks in the fifth.
Asheville got a couple runners on to lead off the third thanks to an error and an infield single. A Rafael Ortega RBI groundout brought home the tying run while Corey Dickerson's two-out RBI double gave Asheville a 2-1 advantage.
The Augusta rally and subsequent rout began in the sixth when the GreenJackets batted around and scored four times to take the lead over the Tourists. Ryan Lollis doubled home the tying run while Ryan Scoma's groundout brought home the go-ahead run to put the GreenJackets up 3-2. Bobby Haney's dying quail double to center scored two more to push Augusta's lead to three.
The GreenJackets got a pair of sacrifice flies in the seventh from Scoma and Rafael Rodriguez while Josh Mazzola's three-run home run in the ninth pushed Augusta's lead out to 10-2. All eight of Mazzola's home runs have come on the road this year.
Shawn Sanford (6-6) benefitted from Augusta's four-run sixth inning, picking up his third win in as many starts. He fired five innings and allowed two runs - both unearned - on four hits and a walk while equaling a season-high with seven strikeouts.
Tago (2-2) took the loss for Asheville, allowing five runs on three hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out five and walked five, with four of the five coming in the fifth and sixth innings.
The GreenJackets have Monday off and will open a seven-game homestand on Tuesday with the first of a four-game series with the Hagerstown Suns. Taylor Rogers (6-8, 2.59) takes the ball for the GreenJackets and will face lefty Robbie Ray. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
Single-game tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
