RiverDogs Pull Away Late, Defeat Jackets 8-4

The Charleston RiverDogs scored five times in the seventh and eighth innings combined to pull away from the Augusta GreenJackets in what had been a nip-and-tuck game through six frames. The Jackets fell 8-4 for their third straight loss and Charleston's sixth straight win.
With the game tied at three in the seventh, Kelvin Castro's two-run single - the third of three straight Charleston hits - gave the RiverDogs a two-run lead. Later in the inning, Rob Lyerly's sacrifice fly brought home another Charleston run.
In the eighth, the Dogs added two more after a dropped fly ball in right-center put DeAngelo Mack on second after what should've been the second out of the inning. Back-to-back RBI singles from Emerson Landoni and Francisco Santana pushed the lead to five. Tommy Joseph's RBI double - his second of the game - brought things back to four but Augusta would pull no closer.
Charleston led early after Craig Clark allowed four straight hits to open up the third inning. Slade Heathcott's RBI single and JR Murphy's sacrifice fly gave the RiverDogs a 2-0 edge. The Jackets chipped away in the third, getting a run back on a Nick Liles run-scoring single, before tying things in the fourth on Joseph's first RBI double.
The tie was short-lived as Lyerly's RBI hit in the fifth gave the RiverDogs a one-run edge. Luke Anders tied things at three for the Jackets in the bottom of the sixth, with a line drive home run that cleared the right field fence by inches - his 11th home run of the year.
Hector Correa threw a perfect sixth inning, but takes the loss after allowing the decisive runs in the seventh. Correa (3-3) allowed three runs on three hits in two innings without a walk or strikeout. Josh Romanski (7-3) got the win for the RiverDogs with six innings of three-run ball, scattering nine hits. Clark allowed three runs on eight hits in the no decision.
The GreenJackets will send Andy Reichard (2-0, 3.47) to the mound on Tuesday to try and snap their four-game losing skid. He'll face Charleston righty Mike Solbach (2-3, 3.86). First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
