Lexington Legends outfielder Jake Goebbert (pronounced GO-bert) has been named South Atlantic League Player of the Week for July 26-Aug. 1, SAL President Eric Krupa announced.

For the week, Goebbert batted .435 (10 hits in 23 at-bats) with three doubles, two home runs, 11 runs batted in and five runs scored. Goebbert leads the South Atlantic League in doubles with 35.

"You love to see good things happen to good people," said Legends General Manager Andy Shea. "When Jake came to Lexington, he sent resumes and letters to dozens of schools and charities to see if there was anything he could do in Lexington while he is here for the summer. He's a great guy and a great baseball player."

Goebbert, 22, played college baseball at Northwestern and was chosen by the Houston Astros in the 13th round of the June 2009 draft.

After completing the current road trip to Hagerstown and Delmarva, Goebbert and the Legends will return to Applebee's Park August 12 to open a nine-game homestand. Game time for the opener Aug. 12 against West Virginia is 7:05 p.m.
