Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Kannapolis Intimidators, the Single-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, will be hosting their third annual Kannapolis Heritage Night, sponsored by the City of Kannapolis, at their 7:05 pm game on Saturday, August 7th against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Florida Marlins). For this game, the first 1,000 fans to enter Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium will receive a replica of the historic Cannon Memorial YMCA building. There will also be a pre-game cow drop, sponsored by Chik-fil-A and post-game fireworks, sponsored by CMC-NorthEast. Gates to Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium open at 6:00 pm.
The Cannon Memorial YMCA building is the third historic Kannapolis building being given away by the Intimidators as they have previously handed out replicas of the Gem Theatre in 2009 and the Fieldcrest Cannon Mill in 2008. The Cannon Memorial YMCA was chartered in 1908 as a division of Cannon Mills and was constructed in 1909. By 1919, the Cannon Memorial contained the largest membership of any YMCA in the country, and in 1940 it became the first branch to offer membership to women by establishing a women's department. The Kannapolis branch, as it stands today, opened up in 1987 and is located on YMCA Drive.
In addition to arriving early for the building replica, fans are also encouraged to arrive early for a Chick-fil-A Cow Drop at 6:35 pm. Chick-fil-A will drop 500 plush cows from a helicopter, and four lucky fans that catch gold cows will win free Chick-fil-A free for a year. Chick-fil-A will also be giving out free sandwiches and coupons after the game.
