Sacramento River Cats News Release

The Sacramento River Cats won a rain-shortened game over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox by the score of 11-7 on Tuesday night at Security Service Field in front of 8,130 fans. The game was stopped at the end of the sixth inning as the rain came down. After a thirty minute delay the game was called with Sacramento winning.

The Sky Sox got out to a big lead in the first when they plated four runs on five straight hits off of River Cats starter Brett Anderson. Matt Miller and Chris Nelson each had RBI singles in the inning and Mike Paulk delivered a two-run triple to cap the scoring.

The early lead would not hold up though as Sacramento battled back. Chris Carter hit a solo homer to lead off the second, his third homer of the series, to make the score 4-1 before the River Cats tacked on six runs in the third. The big blow in the inning came off the bat of catcher Josh Donaldson who smacked a grand slam to left center to put Sacramento up 7-4.

Sacramento would plate three more runs in the fifth on a bases clearing double by Jeff Baisley and a single run in the sixth on an RBI double by Carter.

The Sky Sox would put up a battle in the bottom of the sixth as the rain came down. Kaz Matsui delivered a two-run triple and scampered home on wild pitch to cut the score to 11-7 but the next two batters were retired and the umpires called for the tarp.

Anderson (1-0) picked up the win after giving up four runs on nine hits in five innings of work in his ML rehab assignment. Greg Smith (1-3) took the loss surrendering ten runs, seven earned, on seven hits and six walks.

Game three of the four-game series is set for tomorrow night at 7:05 PM with the gates opening early at a special 4:00 PM time so that fans can watch the Sky Sox taking batting practice. RH Chaz Roe (6-10, 6.06) will take the mound for the Sky Sox against RH Tyson Ross (0-1, 6.35).
