Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Sacramento River Cats dropped the Colorado Springs Sky Sox for the third straight game by the score of 8-1 at Security Service Field in front of a sellout crowd of 8,671 fans.

The 10th largest regular season crowd in Sky Sox history were on hand to see Rockies All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki begin a Major League rehab assignment. Tulowitzki played his scheduled five innings and went 1-for-2 at the plate. He singled on a line drive to right in his first at-bat in the bottom of the first and grounded into a double play in his second at-bat in the fourth on an amazing play by River Cats second baseman Eric Sogard. Defensively, Tulowitzki started two double plays and was in the middle of a third while registering four assists and three putouts.

For Sacramento, Chris Carter continued his dominance of the Sky Sox. He finished the game just 1-for-4 but his lone hit was a two-run homer, his fourth jack of the series. So far this season, Carter is hitting .400 (12-for-30) with six home runs and 17 RBI in seven games. Sogard and Kevin Tolleson both drove in two runs as well as the River Cats put up five runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh.

The Sky Sox lone run came in the eighth inning off reliever Travis Banwart as Chris Frey drove in Chris Nelson with an RBI single.

Tyson Ross (1-1) picked up the win after tossing five shutout innings and striking out seven. Chaz Roe (6-11) was saddled with his PCL-leading 11th loss after giving up five runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

The finale of the four-game series will see the Sky Sox send out LH Josh Muecke (3-4, 6.07) against RH Boof Bonser (0-1, 6.55). The River Cats are looking for the four-game sweep in the 12:35 PM start.

Notes: Sox outfielder Chris Frey played in his 300th game as a member of the Sox becoming just the 14th player to reach the milestone. With 8,671 fans at the game tonight, the Sky Sox registered their second consecutive 8,000+ attended game (8,310 fans were in attendance last night). It's the first time in team history that the team has had two straight games with over 8,000 fans. To date this year, the Sky Sox have had four crowds of over 8,000 fans which sets a new record for the team. The previous high in any season was two.
