Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - On Saturday, July 24th at 7pm the Tacoma Rainiers are making an effort to Paint the Park Purple. Cheney Stadium will be transformed with Husky purple both in the stands and on field. The event is a fundraiser for the University of Washington, Tacoma's scholarship program.
Specialty Husky purple jerseys will be worn on field by each member of the Rainiers team. Immediately following the game, the jerseys will be auctioned right off of the players' backs in the Rainiers' first ever live jersey auction. All proceeds from the auction will benefit student scholarships for UW Tacoma students.
"I think it's terrific that we are able to help raise money for scholarships for UW Tacoma students," Rainiers President Aaron Artman said. "It should be a great night, and we hope to raise as much money as possible through the UW Tacoma fan base as well as the broader footprint of Husky fans throughout the South Sound."
Throwing out the first pitch for the game will be Ashley Tuiasosopo. Ashley, a junior at the University of Washington, is a standout softball player on the Husky team. She is the daughter of Tina and Manu Tuiasosopo and sister to the Rainiers' outfielder, Matt Tuiasosopo. Our National Anthem will be sung pre-game by Breanne Orndorff, a 2010 University of Washington, Tacoma graduate.
Paint the Park Purple tickets are on sale now. There are three purchase options. General admission tickets are $10 with $5 benefiting the scholarships program. You can get reserved tickets and a limited edition Paint the Park Purple t-shirt for $15 with $5 going to the program. Party Patio tickets, which include: all-you-can-eat food, soda, wine, beer, and water, and a limited edition Paint the Park Purple t-shirt, for only $35. All $35 will benefit UWT scholarships.
"The University of Washington, Tacoma has a small campus environment and professors get to know their students. It's a great place to go to school." said Mike Wark, Director of External Relations at the school. "By aiding the scholarships program, this event helps to make higher education at UWT more accessible to students."
