Aces Drop Pitchers Duel In Portland

Cesar Valdez was excellent over six frames, but the Aces offense couldn't back him up Tuesday night, as the Portland Beavers used an eighth-inning run to collect a 2-1 victory over Reno at PGE Park.

Valdez surrendered just one run over six innings of work, and left with the game knotted at one run apiece. After T.J. Beam worked a spotless seventh, Leyson Septimo (0-1) came on in the eighth and issued three walks and a hit batsmen to force home the eventual game winner.

Reno managed just four hits on the night. The Aces' lone tally came in the first inning when Doug Deeds doubled to lead-off the game, advanced to third on a Ryan Roberts single and scampered home on a throwing error by Beavers catcher Dusty Ryan.

Tuesday's victory went to Portland reliever Luis Perdomo (3-2), who worked a scoreless eighth inning. Adam Russell slammed the door in the ninth for his fourth.

The series continues on Wednesday night. Reno will turn to RHP Kevin Mulvey (4-6, 5.02 ERA), and Portland will answer with

RHP Josh Geer (7-7, 6.06 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PT from PGE Park, and all the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM or at www.RenoAces.com.
