1970 Championship Team Dinner August 20
July 21, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
To mark the 40th anniversary of the Omaha Royals' 1970 American Association championship, more than 20 members of that team are planning to return to Omaha next month for a two-day celebration. The Royals will host a reunion night dinner - which is open to the public - on the field at Rosenblatt Stadium on Friday, August 20th.
Those planning to attend include Jack McKeon, who was named American Association Manager of the Year in 1970 after guiding the Royals to their second consecutive league title in as many years of existence. Former 1970 players scheduled to attend are Paul Splittorff, Tom Burgmeier and Jerry Cram. Former Omaha General Manager Bob Quinn will also be on hand, while former radio announcer Bill Beck will serve as emcee. Special guests from the Kansas City Royals include John Wathan - who played for and managed both the Triple-A and big league Royals - and Art Stewart, who's in his 41st season with KC and eighth year as Senior Adviser to the General Manager.
For the August 20th dinner, gates will open at 6:45 p.m., with the program beginning at 7:15 p.m. The cost is $45 per person, which includes the dinner as well as a ticket to the opening game of the Royals' final homestand at Rosenblatt on Saturday, August 21st at 7:05 p.m. During that game vs. the Memphis Redbirds, the members of the 1970 championship team will be recognized on the field.
Only 100 spots are available to the public for the August 20th dinner and RSVP's must be received by Friday, August 6th. Those interested in attending should call Jason Kinney at (402) 738-5104 or may email him at jason.kinney@oroyals.com. In case of inclement weather, the dinner will be moved inside to the Stadium View Club.
The Royals' next home game at Rosenblatt is Friday, July 23 at 7:05 p.m., when Omaha faces the New Orleans Zephyrs. The game will be followed by Werner Enterprises Friday Fireworks and a post-game concert by .38 Special, presented by Werner Enterprises and 96.1 The Brew.
For tickets, call (402) 738-5100, or print tickets online at www.oroyals.com.
