Reno Aces News Release
PORTLAND, Ore.-Kevin Mulvey scattered four hits and allowed just two eighth-inning runs, leading Reno to a 5-2 victory over the Portland Beavers Wednesday night at PGE Park.
Doug Deeds put Reno on the board in the third with a sacrifice fly, after Mark Hallberg led off the inning with a triple. The Aces tacked on another run in the fourth on an RBI-double by Carlos Corporan, before Brandon Allen broke the game open with a two-run homer off the right field foul pole which extended Reno's lead to 4-0. Pedro Ciriaco would add a run-scoring single, which was more than enough for Mulvey.
Mulvey (5-6) was masterful throughout the game, striking out seven and walking just one before handing the ball to the Aces bullpen in the eighth. Zach Kroenke tossed the final 1.2 innings to preserve the victory for the Aces.
Beavers' starter Josh Geer took the loss, surrendering five runs-four earned-and eight hits over seven innings of work.
Allen chipped in with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored to go along with his team-leading 12th home run of the season. Corporan finished with two hits in three at-bats to raise his road batting average to a team-high .381.
Reno and Portland conclude the series Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m from Portand's PGE Park, with Aces RHP Matt Torra (6-6, 4.31 ERA) set to toe the slab against Beavers LHP Cesar Ramos (2-3, 3.35 ERA). All the action can be heard live in Reno on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM or online at RenoAces.com.
The Aces return home Friday for an eight-game homestand against Fresno and Las Vegas. Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
