Cubs Cruise Past RedHawks 8-5

The Iowa Cubs cruised past the Oklahoma City RedHawks 8-5 Wednesday night in front of 9,088 fans at Principal Park. Bobby Scales hit a solo home run to get Iowa on the board in the second inning. The scoring did not stop there as Bryan LaHair and Chris Robinson hit back-to-back singles. Matt Camp then doubled, driving in LaHair for a 2-0 lead. Darwin Barney hit a two-run single scoring Robinson and Camp giving the Cubs the 4-0 edge.

In the top of the third Guilder Rodriguez doubled for the RedHawks. He scored on a Mitch Moreland single to put Oklahoma City on the board. Hernan Iribarren, who walked earlier in the inning, scored the RedHawks' second run on an error. Miach Hoffpauir homered, his third of this series, with Brad Snyder on base pushing Iowa's lead to 6-2 in the third inning. Iowa never lost the lead as they posted another pair of runs in the seventh inning. Camp singled to lead off the inning. Fuld, who was 1-for-4, also singled before Barney and Brad Snyder hit back-to-back run-scoring singles for an Iowa 8-4 lead. Oklahoma City scored two runs of their own in the top half of the inning.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled in the RedHawks' eighth inning. He then scored to trim Iowa's lead, 8-5.

Iowa's Barney plated three runs while Camp collected three hits.

Jeff Samardzija (7-1, 2.76) allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out six to get the victory Wednesday night while Scott Maine picked up his fourth save. Five Iowa pitches combined to strike out 13 Oklahoma City batters. Rich Harden (0-2, 7.94) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits. He struck out nine through five innings.

The Cubs and RedHawks play the finale game of this series Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
