River Cats Take Series Finale 12-6 over Isotopes

May 5, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Isotopes (16-12) have to settle for a series split with the Sacramento River Cats, falling this afternoon at Isotopes Park 12-6.

The River Cats offense exploded for 12 runs after just the first three innings during the matinee. Isotopes starter Jordan Lyles had a game he would like to forget, allowing 11 runs (five earned) over 2.2 innings on the hill.

The Isotopes offense performed admirably in the loss, scoring six runs on 14 hits. First baseman Ryan Casteel had a three-hit game and knocked in a pair of runs on the day. The 24-year-old has now recorded seven RBI over his last three games.

Albuquerque catcher Dustin Garneau, after tying a PCL record with three hit-by-pitches in last night's game, connected on a solo-home run on Thursday. The blast was Garneau's second of the year for the Isotopes.

Outfielder Brandon Barnes also went yard for the Isotopes, hitting a solo-home run of his own, his first of the season.

Infielders Tim Smalling and Jeff Bianchi also contributed to the Isotopes five-run output, each driving home a run during the contest.

The Isotopes continue their eight-game homestand tomorrow evening when they welcome back the Tacoma Rainiers (Triple-A Mariners) to Isotopes Park. The visit will be Tacoma's second and final trip to Albuquerque in 2016. The PCL's ERA leader Jeff Hoffman (2-0, 1.52) will take the hill for the Isotopes on Friday. He will be opposed by Tacoma southpaw James Paxton (3-2, 3.42). First pitch in the series opener is set for 7:05 p.m.
