Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Cubs made a flurry of transactions today, including sending closer Spencer Patton to Chicago and placing RHP Pierce Johnson and OF Matt Murton on the disabled list. RHP Stephen Perakslis joined the I-Cubs and will start tonight against Nashville, and LHP Scott Barnes was activated from the disabled list to fill Iowa's open roster spots.

The Chicago Cubs recalled Patton to take the place of RHP Neil Ramirez, who was placed on the bereavement list today. Patton held a flawless 0.00 ERA with the I-Cubs prior to his call-up and had converted all four save opportunities. Through 10.0 innings, he allowed five hits, walked four, hit one batter and whiffed 17. He held batters to a stifling .147 average with lefties hitting .077 against him.

This is Perakslis' second stint with Iowa this season. The righty previously joined the I-Cubs mid-April and made three appearances with one start, the first start of his professional career. He holds no record with a 2.70 ERA with Iowa.

Johnson was placed on the disabled list for a lat strain suffered in his last start against Nashville on May 2. This is his second trip to the sideline as he missed one start earlier this season with a forearm contusion on his pitching arm. Johnson was 0-2 with a 5.17 ERA through four starts with Iowa. Murton also went down in Monday's contest with an oblique strain. He was scheduled to start at first base that day, but was pinch-hit for in the first inning and never took the field. This is Murton's second trip to the disabled list as well as he missed the first week of the season with turf toe. He was hitting .261 through 11 games with one double and six RBI with Iowa.

Barnes was reactivated today after spending 13 days on the disabled list. The lefty went 1-2 with a 7.00 ERA through five games and one start prior to his injury.
