Nine-Run Output Leads Isotopes to Victory
May 5, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Isotopes (16-11) took their second consecutive game from the River Cats (11-16) on Wednesday night, defeating Sacramento 9-4 at Isotopes Park. The win puts the Isotopes in sole possession of first place in the PCL's Pacific Southern Division.
After the River Cats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Isotopes answered back in kind. Right fielder Jordan Patterson's RBI single evened up the contest after the first frame.
Sacramento crossed the plate twice in the fourth to take a brief two-run lead before Albuquerque's offense countered with a four-run inning of their own. First baseman Ryan Casteel, third baseman Chris Nelson, and shortstop Joey Wong all knocked in runs for the Isotopes during the frame, with a fourth run scoring on a River Cats fielding error.
Albuquerque added two more runs in the fifth after Ryan Casteel missed a grand slam by a matter of feet, bouncing a long, two-run single off of the right field wall.
The Isotopes offense was not done scoring, plating another pair of runs in the sixth inning. Second baseman Rafael Ynoa tripled home a run, while the second run of the frame scored on another Sacramento fielding error.
Isotopes starter Matt Flemer (2-0, 4.13) picked up his second win on the season. The 24-year-old right-hander tossed 6.0 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking none.
Reliever Ryan Arrowood would go on to pick up a three-inning save, shutting out the River Cats the rest of the way for the Isotopes.
The Isotopes and River Cats wrap up their four-game set tomorrow morning at Isotopes Park. Right-hander Jordan Lyles (1-0, 1.69) will make the start for Albuquerque, while Sacramento counters with lefty Ty Blach (3-2, 2.48). First pitch in the series finale is set for 11:05 a.m.
