Reno Aces News Release

FRESNO - The Reno Aces played the fastest nine-inning game in team history on Wednesday night, falling to the Fresno Grizzlies in a 2-0 pitchers' duel at Chukchansi Park. The game time of 1:57 was five minutes less than the previous record of 2:02, set on July 2, 2009, when Reno fell 2-0 at Las Vegas.

Fresno right-hander Brady Rodgers (1-2) pitched a four-hit shutout, issuing no walks and striking out nine. He became the first pitcher to toss a complete-game shutout against the Aces since Robbie Erlin blanked Reno in a 10-0 (7 innings) win for El Paso at Greater Nevada Field on Sept. 5, 2015. The last opposing hurler to shut out the Aces over nine innings was Aaron Brooks, who turned the trick on Sept. 14, 2014 in Omaha's at Werner Park in the decisive Game 5 of the Pacific Coast League Championship Series. In the regular season, the feat has now been accomplished three times, most recently by Las Vegas' David Purcey in a 9-0 51s win at Cashman Field on August 30, 2009.

Fresno (12-13) opened the scoring in the third to take a 1-0 lead. Matt Duffy led off the frame with a double to left, scoring on a two-out single by Tony Kemp. The Grizzlies added another tally in the following frame, when A.J. Reed led off with a solo home run to right-center. The two runs were all the support that was necessary for Rodgers, who retired 15 consecutive Reno batters from final out of the third inning thru the second out of the eighth.

Reno righty Matt Buschmann (@Busch26) gave the Aces a chance to win as he allowed two earned runs on five hits over seven innings with two walks and five strikeouts. Although he took the loss, Buschmann (0-3) put together his second quality start in his last five Minor League appearances dating back to a four-hit shutout for Louisville against Toledo on August 1 of last year.

Jason Bourgeois (@jbourgeois11) provided a bright spot on offense for Reno (11-15), stealing a base and knocking two hits for his eighth multi-hit contest of the season. Sean Jamieson (@SeanJay04) and Brett Hayes (@BrettHayes12) also had singles for the Aces.

Reno continues its 12-game road trip on Thursday afternoon with the finale of the four-game series in Fresno. First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m. PT. Reno will send right-hander Tyler Wagner (0-3, 3.45) to the mound, while Fresno will counter with righty Mike Hauschild (2-2, 4.50).
