WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento River Cats (26-19) improved to a season-best seven games above .500 with an 8-2 win over the Memphis Redbirds on Monday at Raley Field. With the win, Sacramento maintains a half-game lead over the second-place Tucson Sidewinders in the PCL South Division.
RHP Steve Woodard (5-2) earned the win, allowing just 2 ER on 6 H in 6.0 IP. LHP Randy Flores (0-3) took the loss for Memphis. 2B/3B Adam Morrissey had 2 H (1 HR) and 2 RBI for the River Cats. LF Steve Stanley finished the game with 3 H.
The River Cats and Redbirds will play the second game of their four-game series on Tuesday (11:35 am) at Raley Field.
