Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers today added left-hander Eddie Oropesa and right-hander Mike Bumstead to the active roster.

Oropesa, 32, was outrighted to the Beavers by the San Diego Padres on May 21 after going 2-1 with an 11.00 ERA (11er, 9.0ip) over 16 relief appearances. The southpaw joined the Padres in the off-season after two campaigns with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He was 3-3 with a 5.82 ERA in 47 appearances with the Diamondbacks last season, also pitching in 15 games with Triple-A Tucson.

A native of Cuba, Oropesa began his professional career with the St. Paul Saints of the independent Northern League in 1993 and has pitched in five different major league organizations during his 12-year career, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Philadelphia.

He made his major league debut with the Phillies in 2001 and has pitched parts of the last four seasons in the big leagues.

Bumstead was transferred to Portland from Class A Lake Elsinore, where he was 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA in nine relief outings. The 26-year-old originally signed with the Padres as a non-drafted free agent prior to the 2001 campaign and made his Triple-A debut with the Beavers Monday night.

Bumstead spent the majority of the 2003 season with Class AA Mobile, going 1-2 with a 2.88 ERA in 37 appearances (1 start).

The addition of the two pitchers brings the Beavers roster to 24 players.
