Sidewinders blast Isotopes

Tucson collected 17 hits before the host Albuquerque Isotopes had one hit Monday night as the Sidewinders went on to blast the Isotopes 13-1 in the opener of the four-game series. The Sidewinders hammered five home runs and Andy Green produced five hits in the first game all season that the Sidewinders weren't in first place. The Tucson win also ended a six-game winning streak for the Isotopes.

Green set the tone for the night when he led off the game with a home run against Albuquerque starter Michael Tejera. Before Tejera's (4-1) night was over he had allowed 12 hits and ten runs in 3.1 innings.

After Edgar Gonzalez grounded out to start the Sidewinder third inning, Tucson produced six straight hit and six runs. Tim Olson and Julio Ramirez each accounted for long three-run home runs.

The Sidewinders put five more runs on the board in the fourth inning. Green hit his second home run of the game. Alan Zinter chased home Juan Brito with an RBI double. Luis Terrero capped the inning with a three-run homer to right field. Terrero's homer gave the Sidewinders a 12-0 lead.

Albuquerque produced its first hit off Gonzalez with two outs in the sixth inning when Jason Wood singled. Former Toro Brian Banks plated Wood with a two-out single breaking up the shutout attempt.

Gonzalez earned his second win of the year throwing seven strong innings while striking out a season high seven. Gonzalez also added two singles.

The 19 hits were the most by the Sidewinders in a game this season. Green's five hits equaled Luis Terrero's output on opening night. Green flied to right field in the ninth in his sixth at bat of the game.

Brito, Olson, Zinter, Terrero, Ramirez and Gonzalez all added produced multi-hit games.

Tucson's record improved to 25-19. The Sidewinders will continue the series with game two Tuesday night at 6:11 p.m. (Tucson time). Mike Gosling (0-1 6.05) will start for Tucson against the Isotopes Aaron Small (1-4 6.66).The game will be broadcast live on Cool 1450 AM.
