
River Cats Come Close Against Schilling

The Sacramento River Cats (57-35) lost 5-3 on Monday in the opening game of their three-game series against the Tucson Sidewinders (45-44). RHP Curt Schilling (1-0) earned the win for Tucson, allowing 3 ER on 6 H in 6.0 IP. He walked two and struck out nine in his rehab start. RHP Frank Castillo (3-4) took the loss for Sacramento, allowing 4 ER on 9 H in 6.1 IP. The River Cats scored their three runs in the sixth inning on back-to-back home runs by CF Chris Prieto and DH Dave McCarty. Prieto's homer was a two-run shot, while McCarty's was a solo home run. Both were hit off Schilling.
With the loss and Las Vegas' win at Fresno, the Cats now lead the 51s by five-and-a-half games in the PCL South.
