Round Rock Express News Release

After the Round Rock Express' incredible comeback Monday night, it would have been too much to ask for them to do it again – and the Midland RockHounds made sure of it didn't.

Midland jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the late innings and then watched John Rheinecker take them through the ninth in an 8-2 win in front of 9,791 at The Dell Diamond.

The Express had victimized the RockHound bullpen twice in the last three days for wins in their last at bat. However, Rheinecker proved to be too much in giving up two runs on eight hits in eight innings

Round Rock got to him for a run in the first inning when Tommy Whiteman brought home Chris Burke with a sacrifice fly. Starter Nick Roberts coasted through his first three innings before running into trouble in the middle innings. Midland scored single runs in the fourth and sixth and twice in the fifth to give them a lead they would never relinquish. Matt Allegra continued a season long slow torture of Round Rock with his ninth homer of the season in the fifth.

The Express tried to mount a second consecutive comeback by closing the deficit to two at 4-2 with an Anthony Acevedo RBI single in the seventh. However, two runs in the eighth and a home run by Dan Johnson in the ninth pushed the lead to 8-2 and virtually ended any hopes for a comeback – even for Round Rock. Chris Burke did go 3 for 4 in the losing cause.

Rheinecker (9-2) picked up the win and Roberts (1-1) took the loss.

The Express will welcome West Division leading San Antonio to The Dell Diamond for a crucial four-game series starting Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
