
51s Host Iowa Cubs on Thursday

LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will return home for eight-games at Cashman Field, beginning on Thursday, July 10, at 7:10 p.m. against the Iowa Cubs, Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Following the Triple-A All-Star break from Monday-Wednesday, July 14-16, the 51s will host the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, in a four-game series from Thursday-Sunday, July 17-20.
The 51s are currently on a six-game road trip that concludes tomorrow night at Fresno. Las Vegas is in second place in the South Division and trail the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's, by 5.5 games. Las Vegas and Sacramento will meet eight more times (Aug. 19-23 at Sacramento and Aug. 29 - Sept. 1 at Cashman Field).
The Famous Chicken will highlight the four-game series against the Cubs on Saturday, July 12 at 7:10 p.m. The series also marks the return of Phil Hiatt, Las Vegas' all-time home run king. Hiatt hit 67 home runs in two seasons for the 51s from 2001-02. He set the franchise record of 44 during the 2001 season and was named the PCL's MVP. Last season, he hit 23 home runs in 95 games. This season, he has appeared in 83 games for Iowa and is batting .283 with 23 doubles and leads the team with 15 home runs and 54 RBI.
Following the Iowa series, the Triple-A All-Star break will commence and the All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday, July 16 at Memphis' AutoZone Park.
The 51s will then host the Sky Sox and on Saturday, July 19, Carl's Jr. Family Night and 70's Night will be featured. The Carl's Jr. Family Night package includes: a family of four will receive four reserved tickets, four Carl's Jr. Famous Star Meals, which include a hamburger, fries and a soft drink, two authentic 51s baseball hats, one 51s t-shirt, one 51s souvenir baseball and one Cosmo Mini Bobblehead Doll, all for just $24.95.
70's Night will be presented the same evening with 70's trivia, 70's prizes and 70's television theme show contests. The fans that win the best 70's costume contest, will win concert tickets to Jethro Tull on Saturday, Aug. 2, or Pat Benatar on Friday, Aug. 22, at the Mandalay Bay Summer Beach Concert Series. The band, Side Show, will play live 70's music at the Budweiser Beer Garden, located adjacent to the Club Level Restaurant, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Tickets for all 51s home games can be purchased at the Cashman Field box office. Tickets can also be purchased through TicketMaster (474-4000, www.ticketmaster.com). TicketMaster outlets are located at Smith's Food & Drug, Tower Records and Nellis Air Force Base.
