NASHVILLE, Tennessee -- Nelson Figueroa pitched eight strong innings as the Nashville Sounds defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs, 7-1 on Monday Night in Nashville.
Figueroa (9-5), who allowed just one run in six innings to beat New Orleans on July 1, yielded a run and five hits with eight strikeouts and a walk to win his third straight. John Barnes clubbed a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning and doubled in a run and scored in the fifth to lead the offense. Humberto Cota and J.J. Davis added run-scoring singles to cap the scoring for Nashville, which extended its winning streak to seven games.
Royce Huffman ripped an RBI double in the first for New Orleans, which has scored just 14 runs during a season-high, seven-game skid. Greg Miller (0-3) was hit for seven runs and nine hits in six innings to get tagged with the loss.
