Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Rich Gomez hit a three-run, go-ahead home run, helping the Beavers along to a 7-4 win over the Tacoma Rainiers before 5,131 Monday night at PGE Park.

With Alex Fernandez and Mark Quinn on base, Gomez hit one deep to center in the fifth, putting the Beavers (46-46) on top, 6-4.

An inning earlier, Ben Risinger hit a stand-up double with two outs before Yamid Haad stepped to the plate and hit a two-run homer to left, narrowing the score, 4-3. It was Haad's fist home run on the year.

Tacoma (39-53) threatened in the seventh with the bases loaded, but Portland reliever Jaret Wright came up clutch, striking out Kenny Kelly with a full count and two outs to work his way out of the jam.

Dennis Tankersley (6-9) earned the win, giving up four runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

With the bases loaded and one out in the second, Ruben Castillo singled, scoring Kelly before a sac-fly by Jamal Strong sent Mickey Lopez home.

Pat Borders hit a solo shot off the scoreboard in left-center, putting Tacoma on top, 3-0 in the third inning.

In a 3-for-3 evening, Jason Bay drew a walk with the bases loaded in the third for the Beavers' first run of the night and added a solo shot in the seventh, his second home run in two games since re-joining the Beavers on a major league rehabilitation assignment earlier this week.

Portland and Tacoma will go at it again Tuesday night at PGE Park. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
