Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Joey Rickard drove in the lone run for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (59-41, 21-11), who began their eight-game road trip with a 5-1 loss to the Great Lakes Loons (48-54, 21-11) on Wednesday night at Dow Diamond. The loss drops the Hot Rods into a first-place tie in the Eastern Division with the Loons. Tommy Coyle and Justin O'Conner both recorded two-hit games for the Hot Rods.
The Loons took the first lead of the game on a Jeremy Rathjen RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Hot Rods counter-punched right back. Brandon Martin singled with one out in the top of the fifth inning and advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw by Loons starter Tom Windle. With Martin on third base, Rickard smashed a double to the warning track in centerfield to tie the score 1-1.
The Hot Rods settled for just one run in the fifth, and the Loons responded in a big way in the bottom half. A two-out single, followed by back-to-back walks from Blake Snell, loaded the bases for Great Lakes. Then, James Baldwin doubled to deep left field to clear the bases and give the Loons a 4-1 advantage.
The series continues on Thursday night with the middle contest of the three-game set from Dow Diamond at 6:05 PM CDT. The Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Dylan Floro (7-2, 1.80), while the Loons will counter with LHP Miguel Sulbaran (6-2, 3.20). The broadcast starts with Hank Fuerst on the Forever Communications Pregame Show at 5:35 PM CDT on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com).
Bowling Green Ballpark returns to action in early August with a nine-game homestand to open the month. The Hot Rods will host the Dayton Dragons on August 1 along with Red, White, and Blue Night presented by AAA Systems, honoring members of the military, firefighters, and police personnel. The game will also serve as Thirsty Thursday, with $2 food and drink specials made possible by All-Hit WUHU 107 and Beaver 96.7.
