Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings announce a series of roster moves, including the addition of 3B D.J. Peterson, the Mariners' 1st round pick from the 2013 June draft. OF Jabari Henry has been promoted to the Advanced-A High Desert Mavericks. OF Alfredo Morales and RHP George Mieses both move from High Desert to Clinton, and RHP Cameron Copping moves from Clinton to Everett.
Peterson, 21, moves up to Clinton from Short Season-A Everett Aquasox. Peterson joined the AquaSox after the Seattle Mariners selected him with their first round pick (12th overall) out of the University of New Mexico. With Everett, the third baseman batted .312 in 29 games with six home runs and 27 RBIs. The Arizona native was originally drafted by the Mariners in the 33rd round out of Gilbert (AZ) High School before Seattle selected him again three years later.
In his collegiate career, Peterson was named First Team All-American and Mountain West Co-Player of the Year in both his sophomore and junior seasons. With the Lobos, Peterson won the Mountain West Triple Crown twice, including a 2013 campaign with a .408 batting average, 18 home runs and 72 runs batted in. Peterson set the Lobos' record for career doubles with 78, and he became the highest MLB draft pick in school history.
Henry, 22, moves up to High Desert after a successful first half with the LumberKings. Henry was named to the Midwest League All-Star game as a reserve outfielder after batting .316 with 5 home runs and 28 RBIs in the first half. The outfielder was named Midwest League Player of the Week from April 29th to May 5th after going 9-for-22 with 7 runs scored, 11 runs driven in, three home runs and two doubles.
