
RHP William Oliver goes 8.0 innings, allowing one run in victory

(SCHAUMBURG, ILLINOIS) - The Evansville Otters (46-30) received 8.0 innings of one run ball from starting pitcher William Oliver and three RBIs by outfielder Jeremy Nowak in the team's 6-1 win over the Schaumburg Boomers on Thursday night.
Oliver threw 125 pitches in the game, yielding just a single run on six hits. He also struck out seven hitters on the night.
The win helps Evansville avoid a sweep, ending their three game losing streak to the Boomers.
Oliver and the Otters trailed by a run early after a first inning double from Tony Delmonico.
Trailing 1-0, Evansville tied the game in the second with an RBI double from first baseman Nik Balog.
Tied at one, the Otters scored again in the third with a two-run double from Nowak.
Leading 3-1, Evansville capitalized on a fifth inning leadoff fielding error from Schaumburg to plate two more runs. Infielder Phillip Wilson brought home Josh Allen on an RBI single, and Wilson scored later in the frame on a run producing double from outfielder Chris Elder.
Oliver maintained the lead throughout the game, retiring 10 of 11 batters in a row at one point.
The Otters scored their final run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Nowak and Oliver ended the night by setting down five of the last six batters he faced.
Reliever Anthony Collazo threw a scoreless ninth inning to seal the 6-1 Evansville victory.
Infielder Shayne Houck went 1-for-4 in the game, extending his hitting streak to 15 games. Outfielder John Schultz collected two hits in the contest, moving his hitting streak to nine games.
Evansville is back at home on Friday, August 15 to begin a weekend series against first place Washington. It is Kyndle Night and Henderson County Chamber of Commerce Night at Bosse Field. RHP Preston Olson (7-3, 2.64) will start for the Otters. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm CDT. Fans can call 812-435-8686 for tickets. The game can be heard on WUEV 91.5 FM.
