TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Ian MacDougall faced the minimum in six of his eight innings and earned his fourth straight win as the Traverse City Beach Bums knocked off the Florence Freedom 4-1 on Thursday night at Wuerfel Park to finish the series.
MacDougall (6-3) walked the first batter of the game but promptly erased him on a double play. In the month of August, MacDougall has gone 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA, allowing two runs over 22 innings in three starts.
Traverse City bounced back from the 1-0 deficit with two runs in the last of the third inning. The first two batters reached and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt before Jeff DeBlieux scored Jake Rhodes on a sacrifice fly to knot the game at one. Jose Vargas followed with a two-out double plating Scott Woodward to push TC ahead 2-1.
In the fourth inning, Kevin Taylor reached on a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a suicide squeeze to make it 3-1. TC was held quiet until the eighth inning when Jovan Rosa drove in DeBlieux with a two-out single to bring the score to 4-1. Will Rankin picked up his fifth save with a perfect nine-pitch ninth.
Michael O'Neal (2-4) took the loss for Florence, allowing three runs on three earned while tying a season-high with five innings pitched.
