Quad Cities River Bandits News Release


The Quad Cities River Bandits, in conjunction with the Houston Astros, have announced the following changes to their roster on Friday. Pitcher R.J. Freure, outfielder Wilyer Abreu and catcher Orlando Marquez have been transferred from extended spring training to Quad Cities. Pitcher Humberto Castellanos has been transferred from Quad Cities to Round Rock (Triple-A). Pitcher Jose Rivera has been transferred from Quad Cities to extended spring training. Catcher Alex Holderbach has been placed on the 7-day injured list.

Subtractions:

RHP Humberto Castellanos transferred from Quad Cities to Round Rock

C Alex Holderbach placed on the 7-day injured list

Freure rejoins the River Bandits and is expected to start tonight's game against the Burlington Bees.

Abreu, a 19-year old from Venezuela, played 41 games in the Gulf Coast League last season. He hit .223 with 16 runs batted in for the Astros affiliate in that league. Abreu reached base at a .310 clip and stole eight bases.

Marquez, signed by the Astros out of Venezuela in 2017, played in a combined 14 games last season between Buies Creek and Tri-City. He hit two home runs and drove in seven between the stops. He has thrown out 39% of attempted base stealers in his career.

Abreu has been assigned #45. Marquez has been assigned #50. Freure will resume wearing #36. The active roster remains at the 25-player limit.
