New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Trenton, NJ- Starter Rey Gonzalez allowed one run over seven innings and Randy Boone came off the disabled list to work two perfect innings in relief, but Trenton beat the Fisher Cats 2-1 in 11 innings on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park.
In the bottom of the 11th inning, Austin Krum singled for Trenton and scored on a single to left field by Eduardo Nunez that was misplayed by New Hampshire's Todd Donovan for a game-ending error. Krum scored the winning run from first base on the play.
Grant Duff (1-0), the fifth Trenton pitcher of the game, earned the win in his Eastern League debut. Celson Polanco (1-2) took the loss.
Trenton (41-43) opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning against Gonzalez. Krum (3-for-5) beat out a bunt for a single, stole second and scored on a double by Jorge Vazquez.
The Fisher Cats (39-46) scored their run before they had a hit in the game. In the top of the sixth inning, Darin Mastroianni walked and then on consecutive pitches stole second and third. He scored on a groundout by Brian Dopirak to tie the game at 1-1. It was Dopirak's Eastern League-leading 68th RBI.
New Hampshire had only two hits in the game, a David Cooper single in the sixth inning and a Donovan triple in the eighth, but had opportunities to score as Trenton walked 11 batters. The Fisher Cats also set a franchise record with five stolen bases in the game.
The rubber game of the series will be Thursday afternoon at Waterfront Park. New Hampshire sends right-hander Kenny Rodriguez (1-0, 1.50) to the mound at 12:05pm. The Thunder counters with right-hander Ryan Pope (2-6, 5.40). Radio coverage begins at 11:45am with the BayRing Pre-Game Show on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.
Following the Eastern League All-Star break, the Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Thursday, July 16, to open a four-game series against the Northern Division-leading Connecticut Defenders at 7:05pm on Jewish Pride Night. An Atlas Fireworks Show follows the game. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
