Michael Taylor Named EL's June Player of the Month

Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Reading Phillies outfielder Michael Taylor has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of June. Michael had an outstanding month for the R-Phils, batting .369 (41-for-111) with eight doubles, one triple, five home runs, 22 runs scored, 19 RBI, 12 walks, five steals, a .445 on-base percentage and a .595 slugging percentage while leading the team to a league-best 17-11 record during the month. The 23-year old reached base in all but two of the 28 games he played in during the month and had at least one hit in all but five of the games, including 10 multiple hit games. He lead all Eastern League players in hits (41), runs scored (22) and total bases (66) during the month and also ranked third in batting average (.369) and tied for fourth in home runs (5). The Apopka, Florida resident has been one of the top offensive performers in the league this season and he is currently ranked among the league leaders in runs scored (54-tied 1st), hits (99-2nd), RBI (62-2nd), OPS (.985-2nd), slugging percentage (.582-3rd), home runs (15-tied 3rd), batting average (.339-4th), triples (4-tied 5th), stole bases (14-7th) and on-base percentage (.402-tied 7th). Taylor has reached base safely in 17 consecutive games for the R-Phils and is bating .377 with five home runs and 20 RBI during that stretch.

This marks the fourth straight month that the 6'6", 250 lb. slugger has been won a Player of the Month Award, as he was selected as the Player of the Month in the Phillies organization for April and May this season and the month of August last season. In addition to taking home those monthly awards, Taylor was also chosen as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending June 7th and was also named to the Southern Division roster for the 2009 Eastern League All-Star Game in Trenton on July 15th.

Michael was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 5th round of the 2007 draft after hitting .335 (78-for-233) with 16 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 59 RBI and 44 runs scored while earning All-Pac 10 honors during his junior season at Stanford University.
