Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA, PA - Curve third baseman Pedro Alvarez doubled home OF Jose Tabata in the bottom of the first inning and that was all starter Kyle Bloom would need as the Altoona Curve defeated the Erie SeaWolves (AA-Detroit Tigers) 1-0 in the middle game of a three game series Wednesday night at Blair County Ballpark.

Bloom (2-4) picked up his second win of the season after matching his season long start throwing 6.0 shutout innings allowing just three hits and striking out a season high seven batters. Sean Smith finished off the seventh Curve shutout of the season with 3.0 innings of work, giving up just one hit to pick up his seventh save of the year.

Alvarez finished the night 1-for-3 to extend his current hitting streak to six games, his longest since joining the Curve on 6/23. CF Gorkys Hernandez and Miles Durham each doubled for Altoona. Durham now has four extra base hits in his last three games and Hernandez matched his Curve best hitting streak at five games.

The Curve (31-55) finish up the three game series with the SeaWolves (46-39) Thursday afternoon at Blair County Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. with gates opening at 11:00 and radio coverage beginning at 11:35 p.m. on ESPN Ratio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network. Probable starters for Thursday are RHP Yoslan Herrera (4-0, 4.05) for Altoona and southpaw Ramon Garcia (1-0, 6.21) for Erie.

Thursday will be Super Splash Day at BCB presented by the Altoona Water Authority. Blair County Ballpark will have a Wet Zone in the third base concourse where fans can enjoy a fun, wet afternoon at the ballpark. It's also Thirsty Thursday at BCB with half off of small sodas and a select 16 oz draft beer. Great seats are still available for Thursday's contest. Fans can order tickets by calling 877-99-CURVE, online at altoonacurve.com, or at the Blair County Ballpark Box Office.
