York Revolution News Release
Chris Walker's two-run triple in the seventh broke a tie and Jesus Sanchez earned his first win of the season as the York Revolution closed their season-long nine-game road trip with back-to-back wins over the Bridgeport Bluefish, winning 5-3 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday night. The Revs now lead the Freedom Division's second half standings by 1.5 games and return home to open a nine-game homestand on Saturday.
Bridgeport drew first blood with a first inning run on back-to-back doubles by Andres Perez and Steve Moss but the Revs quickly responded.
Chris Nowak drilled a solo homer down the left field line leading off the second, his third in as many nights and 12th in just 38 games on the season. Vince Harrison followed with a double to deep right and scored on a bloop RBI single to left by Liubiemithz Rodriguez giving York a 2-1 lead.
Sanchez stranded a pair of runners in each of the first three innings and worked out of major trouble in the second and third. After Danny Putnam reached on an infield single and Luis Rodriguez doubled to right-center to lead off the bottom of the second, Sanchez retired the next three in-a-row stranding both runners. Then with the bases loaded and one out in the third, Sanchez induced a 3-2-3 double play with Putnam batting to squelch that threat and keep the Revs in front.
Wes Bankston drove an RBI double to right-center to tie the game in the fifth, but Sanchez allowed just two runs in six innings to earn the victory.
With two outs in the top of the seventh and Bluefish starter Matt Pike having retired six in-a-row and 10 of the previous 11, Rodriguez rapped a double down the right field line to ignite a rally, and Salvador Paniagua pounded a single to left setting the stage for Walker. With a 1-2 count, Walker launched a towering drive against the fence in deep left-center, plating both runs to put the Revs on top 4-2.
Geoff Geary set the Bluefish down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Bankston led off the home eighth with his league-leading 18th homerun to right-center cutting the lead to 4-3, but Ricardo Gomez ended the inning with the tying run at third when Walker ran down a deep fly by Rodriguez to straightaway center.
Paniagua crushed a no-doubt homerun to deep left-center with two outs in the ninth for an insurance run. It was his sixth of the season, fifth against Bridgeport, and fourth at Harbor Yard.
Michael Nix finished it with a perfect ninth for his 10th save.
