Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 8-7 in the series finale on Friday night at Bethpage Ballpark.

After a one hour and thirty-three minute rain delay, the Barnstormers opened the scoring on Ozzie Chavez' two-run single in the second inning. The Ducks answered back with three-consecutive two-run innings to take a 6-2 lead. Back-to-back home runs by Matt Padgett and Tom Pennino in the second, RBI singles by John Rodriguez and Lew Ford in the third, and run-scoring singles from Kraig Binick and Ray Navarrete in the fourth did the damage.

Lancaster stormed back to take the lead in the sixth with a five-spot against Ducks' reliever Bob Zimmermann. Brandon Jones' solo homer, RBI singles by Matt Tupman and Gilberto Mejia, and a two-run single by Tommy Everidge highlighted the inning. However, the Ducks rallied back with two runs in the sixth to take the lead for good. Binick's RBI double and Navarrete's run-scoring single gave Long Island the 8-7 lead.

Bubbie Buzachero (5-2) got the win in relief after tossing two and one-third innings of scoreless baseball. Lancaster starter J.D. Durbin (5-2) took the loss after surrendering eight runs on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings. Ehren Wassermann earned his seventh save after striking out the side in the ninth.

Binick, Navarrete and Ford each had two hits, while Binick and Navarrete each had two runs batted in.

The Ducks begin a three-game series with the Road Warriors on Saturday night. Game time is set for 7:05 PM, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. It's the Seventh Annual Italian Heritage Night at the ballpark, and the first 1,500 fans will receive Inflatable Bats, presented by Order of Sons of Italy in America. Shane Youman gets the start for Long Island against the Road Warriors' Christopher Mason.
