TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Is the sixth of eight meetings and the third of four here. Richmond is 2-3 vs. the Royals, 1-1 here. Reading has won three straight in the season series by a combined 14-4. David Brosseau and Brad Church each have six points vs. the Royals. Brian McCullough has eight vs. Richmond. The Royals are 7-29 (24.1%) on the power play vs. the ‘Gades and have two shorthanded goals. Richmond is out-shooting the Royals by an average of over eight per game. Reading has out-scored Richmond 11-4 in the second period. The ‘Gades are in a sixth place tie in the Northeast Division with Reading. Each club has 51 points but the Royals have two games in hand.

LAST ACTION: The ‘Gades beat Greensboro 6-3 here last night. The clubs traded leads in the second period and went to the third tied at two. Richmond exploded for four third period goals. Six ‘Gades scored goals and seven had two point nights. Mac Magliarditi made 39 saves as Richmond was outshot 42-28. The Royals were idle last night. They lost 5-4 in a shootout at Charlotte Tuesday. Reading rallied from a 3-0 deficit after one and a 4-1 score after two to force overtime. Reading scored three third period goals, including a shorthanded goal with 1:46 to play to tie the game. Charlotte out-shot the Royals 41-26, including 16-3 in the first period. Brad Rooney scored twice for Reading.

‘GADES NOTES: The ‘Gades conclude a six game homestand tonight (Richmond is 3-2). This is the second of six straight games vs. Northeast Division rivals. The ‘Gades were out-shot by 14 last night after out-shooting six straight opponents by an average of just under 10 per game. Richmond was 2-4 over that stretch. That was the largest margin the ‘Gades have been out-shot by in a win this season. Prior to last night the ‘Gades were perfect on the penalty kill in their last eight wins. Greensboro was 1-3 on the power play last night. The ‘Gades last win when allowing a power play goal was 12/1 vs. Atlantic City. Jonathan St. Louis and Tyler Palmer remain on IR. Richmond is 8 for their last 19 on the power play. Brad Church has points in five straight games.

ROYALS NOTES: Reading leads the ECHL in goals per game (3.8) and they are last in goals against (4.0). Reading is third in power play percentage (23.3%) and 24th in penalty killing. The Royals are 25th in shots against (35.3). Reading has a better record on the road than at home (13-10-1 on the road, 11-12-2 at home). Ex-Renegade Brian McCullough is second in the ECHL in scoring (68 points) and tied for second in goals (29). Brad Rooney is eighth in scoring (63 points). The Royals have four players away on AHL call-ups: Brandon Dietrich and Jeff Giuliano to Manchester, Dan Riva to Cincinnati, and Chris Bogas with Philadelphia. Remi Royer and Antoine Bergeron are on the 7-Day IR.

NEXT UP: The ‘Gades open a four game road trip at Greensboro Thursday at 7 PM (6:45 100.3 FM), Richmond returns home Friday, February 21 vs. Pee Dee at 7:35. The Royals host Johnstown next Friday.
