Condors Add Defenseman Swinson
February 8, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors of the West Coast Hockey League have added a defender to the ranks, signing Wes Swinson. He is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Condors take on the Gulls from San Diego at 7:00pm.
Swinson, 27, started the season playing overseas in Europe, but spent the last three seasons with the Augusta Lynx of the East Coast Hockey League. He has played six seasons as a pro, including one full campaign at the next level, splitting the 1997-98 campaign between the American and International Hockey Leagues. He began this season in Amsterdam with the Boretti Tigers in the Dutch Superleague, where he appeared in 15 games and recorded 33 points.
"This is big for us," said Condors Head Coach Paul Kelly. "Especially with the recent loss of Christoffer Norgren. He gives us another strong body on an already-great defensive unit. Wes is a big guy with a great shot and should be able to contribute offensively as well as defensively.
The Condors host the Idaho Steelheads tonight at 7:00pm. The game features the return of the Blues Brothers, presented by FOX 98.5 and HealthSouth.
On Sunday, the Condors host the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 5:00pm for Cheer Sign Giveaway Night. Everyone in attendance will receive a Condors Cheer Sign, featuring a full color picture of defenseman Quinn Fair, sponsored by the Bakersfield Californian, Real Rock 104.3 and Coleman Homes. In addition to the game being broadcast on KGEO AM 1230, Sunday's game is also the first-ever Spanish broadcast in franchise history. The game will be carried live on KWAC La Nortena 1490 AM, with Jose Morales handling the play-by-play duties and Jorge Escalante and Juan Manuel Martinez serving as color commentators.
