Greensboro Beats Greenville, 3-2, in a Shoot-Out

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greensboro Generals never had the benefit of a lead through 65 minutes of regulation and overtime, but Pete Gardiner scored in the shoot-out, and goaltender Daniel Berthiaume stopped all 5 shooters he face as the Generals beat the Grrrowl 3-2 in front of 7,109 at the BI-LO Center Saturday night.

TYLER DEIS opened the scoring with his 16th goal of the season at 11:17 of the first period, before Chris Allen's powerplay goal at 11:47 of the second period tied the game at, 1-1. JONATHAN GAUTHIER scored his first goal in a Grrrowl uniform and gave Greenville a 2-1 lead at 15:18 of period three. But Mark Turner capitalized with a powerplay goal with just :37 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game, 2-2, and force overtime. Neither team scored during 5:00 minutes of sudden death. Pete Gardiner, who was the 5th shooter for Greensboro in the shootout, slid one past MICHAEL GARNETT to win the game 3-2. Daniel Berthiaume stopped all 5 shooters from Greenville in the shootout.
