Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY (6/25/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell in the opening game of the three-game series to the Vermont Lake Monsters by a score of 4-3 on Thursday evening at Dutchess Stadium.
Hudson Valley scored the games' first three runs of the night to take a 3-0 lead through two innings. The first run came on a solo home run over the lead field fence by right fielder Manny Sanchez in the bottom of the first inning. The Renegades scored two runs in the second on an RBI single by designated hitter Nic Wilson and another on an error.
Vermont closed the gap to 3-1 in the top of the third inning when first baseman Gabriel Santana took a fastball from Renegades starting pitcher Yonny Chirinos over the left field wall. The scored remained 3-1 until the top of the eighth inning when Vermont scored three runs off of Luis Urena (0-1) with an RBI single from second baseman Jesus Lopez, an RBI sacrifice fly by third baseman Trace Loehr and an RBI double by Gabriel Santana.
The Renegades had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth when with two outs, left fielder Cade Gotta doubled and Wilson reached on a throwing error but Vermont's Jon Massid (1-0) retired catcher Josh Rapacz on a ground out to end the game
Massid earned the win tossing five innings in relief and stuck out a batter. Urena took the loss allowing three runs in two innings after Yonny Chirinos went five innings and stuck out six batters.
Notes: Chirinos has been steady in his two starts for the Renegades this season. In 10 innings of work in 2015, he has allowed just one run off seven hits while striking out a dozen batters.
The Renegades face Vermont in the second game of the three-game series on Friday, June 26, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Friday evening is "Family Board Game Night" presented by NY Blood Center where fans can play many classic family board games located throughout Dutchess Stadium.
