BROOKLYN, NY - June 25, 2015 - After three and a half hours and 13 innings, the Cyclones were Saved by the Bell thanks to a booming triple off the bat Jeff Diehl in the twelfth inning that chased Michael Katz around the bases like he was late for the school bus, to gave Brooklyn the 2-1 victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats.

Brooklyn starter Jose Celas struggled with his control throughout the game, walking six batters over his 4.2 innings on the mound. The righthander was able to wiggle his way out of trouble early in the game before Tri-City notched their first run of the game in the top of the third. Johnny Sewald, brother of former Cyclones reliever Paul Sewald, started the threat with a one out walk and moved into scoring position on Kolbey Carpenter's single. Sewald then stole third base, and a throwing error by Brooklyn backstop Natanael Ramos allowed him to scamper home with the game's first run.

While Celas struggled to hit his location throughout his outing, Tri-City starter Rogelio Armenteros was on point all game long. The Cuban defector tossed 5.0 near-perfect innings, scattering three hits and striking out seven but received a no-decision. In a game that lasted 12 innings, it was perhaps the fifth inning that proved to be the turning point of the game. The ValleyCats loaded the bases with two outs thanks to a pair of singles and a walk, which would chase Celas from the game. Craig Missigman was summoned from the bullpen and snared a comebacker off the bat of Bryan Muniz for the final out of the inning, leaving the bags full of Cats.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Brooklyn drew even thanks to a two-out rally from the top of the Brooklyn lineup. Tucker Tharp reached on a fielder's choice to start the threat before advancing to second on a wild pitch to get into scoring position. Cyclones second baseman, Vinny Siena - who is off to a torrid start - laced a single just over the out reached glove of ValleyCats second baseman Brooks Marlow to chase Tharp home and knot the score at 1-1.

And that's the way it would stay for a while as the ValleyCats squandered numerous scoring chances, including a pair of bases loaded opportunities, as leaving a season-high 13 runners on base.

Carlos Valdez (1-0) tossed a scoreless 11th and 12th to set the stage for Jeff Diehl's late inning heroics. Enmanuel Zabala started the bottom of the 12th with a leadoff walk before Michael Katz's failed bunt attempt brought Diehl to the plate with Katz as the game-winning run on first base. The Rhode Island native didn't disappoint as he mashed a ball to opposite field that eluded TriCity right fielder Pat Border, allowing Katz to scamper around the bases with the game-winning run.

Brooklyn continues its six-game home stand Thursday night, kicking off a series against the Connecticut Tigers. Tyler Badamo will make his second start of the season as the Cyclones celebrate their 15th season at MCU Park.
