Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Auburn, NY (8/1/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Auburn Doubledays by a score of 1-0 on Saturday evening at Falcon Park.
Both teams starting pitchers were strong through the first five innings of the game as Hudson Valley's Benton Moss allowed two hits during that stretch while Auburn's Taylor Hearn gave up just one hit.
Auburn took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as shortstop Edwin Lora singled to lead off the inning and came around to score on a two-out RBI single from third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez. That ended the night for Moss (1-2) as he took the loss allowing one run off four hits in six innings of work while striking out four batters.
The Renegades had a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning as third baseman Matt Dacey walked to lead off the inning and moved to third base on first baseman Hector Montes's one-out single. Auburn's reliever Connor Overton struck out the next two batters to end the inning and preserved the lead for the Doubledays.
Hudson Valley threatened again in the top of the ninth inning as with two outs, Montes reached on an error and moved to third base on designated hitter Nic Wilson's single. But Auburn's Mariano Rivera recorded the final out to pick up his second save of the season.
Overton (1-0) earned the win for Auburn as he pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Hearn. With the result, the Renegades fell to 20-20 while the Doubledays improved their record to 19-21.
Notes: Hudson Valley's Tim Ingram pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Moss on Saturday evening. Ingram has not allowed an earned run in his last seven appearances for the Renegades dating back to July 5th. During this stretch, Ingram has tossed 14 and two-thirds innings and has scattered eight hits while striking out eight batters and has walked just one.
The Renegades conclude their three-game series against the Auburn Doubledays on Sunday, August 2nd, with first pitch set for at 2:05pm. Hudson Valley returns home on Monday, August 3rd at 7:05pm to face the Tri-City ValleyCats. Monday is the "$1,000 Hot Dog Giveaway" at Dutchess Stadium.
