It was a night to forget for the Cyclones on Saturday as they dropped the second of a three game series to the Batavia Muckdogs by a 10-3 score. RHP Andrew Church (1-2, 6.00) lasted less than an inning and was battered around in the shortest outing of any Cyclone starter this season.

Batavia jumped all over Church in the first inning, leading to an early exit and a deep hole for Brooklyn that they would never climb out of. A leadoff hit by pitch was followed by a single and a sacrifice fly by Stone Garret, giving the Muckdogs a quick 1-0 lead. Four consecutive hits stretched the Batavia lead to 4-0 with still just one out. RHP Dawrin Frias would come on to finish the inning but not before Batavia collected six hits and six runs, all of them charged to Church, who recorded just two outs.

The Cyclones didn't come to life offensively until the third when Tucker Tharp notched the first hit for the home team. It was a solo home run for Tharp, his second of the season to get Brooklyn on the board. The end of the third would be the end of Batavia starter Justin Jacome, who gave up just one hit and one run over three innings while walking two and striking out four. The left would turn a five run lead over to the Muckdog bullpen with six innings left to play.

New York Penn-League ERA leader Nestor Bautista would replace Jacome for the Muckdogs but Brooklyn would continue to chip away in the fourth. David Thompson led off with his second home run of the season, a solo shot, over the left field fence to cut the Batavia lead to 6-2.

Speaking of bullpens, Frias did an admirable job for Brooklyn. Over 3.2 innings he allowed two hits and a run but struck out six and gave the Cyclones a chance to climb back in the game. His only blemish was a solo home run given up to Batavia catcher Brad Haynal in the fifth, extending the Batavia lead to 7-2.

Brooklyn had their best opportunity in the bottom half of the fifth when they loaded the bases on hits from Vinny Siena and Michael Bernal. A walk to Jeff Diehl loaded the bases before Brandon Brosher collected an RBI with a two-out walk. However, the rally would stall and the game would remain 7-3. Bautista (3-1) got the win despite laboring through four innings for Batavia. He gave up two runs on four hits and five walks but struck out seven and was backed by more than enough offensive support.

The Muckdogs would add insurance runs in the sixth with LHP Ruben Reyes on the mound. With a man on and two out, Garret would hit his league-leading seventh home run of the season to extend the Batavia lead to 9-3. Reyes tossed 2.2 innings and allowed three hits, two runs and struck out one. LHP Carlos Valdez came on in the eighth and allowed a walk along with another RBI hit from Garrett to add yet another tally and put the Muckdogs up 10-3.

Jordan Hillyer tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth while striking out four to lock down the win for Batavia. The loss ends the Cyclones' three game win streak as well as a four game home winning streak.

The Cyclones close out their series with Batavia on Sunday afternoon, August 2nd at MCU Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM with RHP Chris Flexon (0-1, 8.22) on the mound for Brooklyn in the rubber game.
