August 1, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters looked to pull off a ninth inning comeback against the Vermont Lake Monsters on Saturday night at Susquehanna Bank Park, but would come up short 4-3. The Cutters rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score three runs in the ninth inning on three hits.
The Lake Monsters scored a run in the top of second inning with a trio of fielder's choices and a Crosscutters error. Tyler Gilbert would settle in after the second inning to keep Vermont scoreless and give his offense a chance to get back into the game. Williamsport ran into some good pitching as they would tally just two hits against Bubba Derby through three innings. The fifth inning would see Vermont score three times to take a 4-0 lead.
Williamsport would play from the fifth inning on without their pitching coach Les Lancaster and without manager Pat Borders from the sixth inning on as they were both ejected from the game. The Cutters bullpen worked 4.2 innings without allowing an earned run as Skylar Hunter threw two perfect innings. The Cutters would save their magic for the bottom of the ninth inning trailing by four runs.
The Cutters would face Vermont reliever John Gorman and greet him with three consecutive hits to start the inning. Jesus Posso drove in his 10th and 11th runs of the season with a double into left field to score Mark Laird and Jose Pujols. Trailing 4-2 Jan Hernandez grounded out allowing Posso to score from third base to make it a one run game. Carlos Duran would be unable to keep the Cutters rally alive as he grounded out to the second baseman to end the game. The Cutters sit in first place in the Pinckney Division with a four game lead over second place West Virginia after they defeated Connecticut 7-6 on the road.
