Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings are proud to announce defenceman Griffin Reinhart has been named to Team Pacific for the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, which will be held Dec. 29 to Jan. 4 in Winnipeg and Portage La Prairie.
The 22-player Team Pacific roster was announced Wednesday and is made up of 16-year-old players from Alberta and British Columbia, with 11 players from each province being named to the team. Of the 22 players on the roster, 20 are currently playing in the Western Hockey League.
Reinhart is a hulking 6-foot-4, 205-pound blue-liner from West Vancouver in his rookie season with the Oil Kings. He has two goals and seven assists in 20 games so far in his rookie season. The first-round (third overall) Oil Kings bantam draft pick in 2009 scored 34 points in 32 games with the Vancouver NW Giants Midget AAA squad last season. His father is former NHL defender Paul Reinhart, who scored 560 points during his career with the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.
"For the entire staff of Team Pacific, today is a very exciting day because the player roster for Team Pacific is formally announced. A hockey team is like a giant puzzle and though there was some very tough decisions through this process, we as an entire staff feel we have the right pieces that will fit together, both on and off the ice, that will give us the best opportunity for success at the tournament," said Team Pacific Head Coach Robert Dirk.
Reinhart and the Oil Kings return home to Rexall Place to play the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday at 7 p.m. Individual game tickets for all Oil Kings home games are on sale now and start at just $15 in the ATB Financial Zone. Tickets are available at any Ticketmaster outlet, online at oilkings.ca, or by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625).
