Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
MOOSE JAW, SK-The Warriors and their fans got "gutsy" this past week, bringing awareness to the diseases of Crohn's and Colitis and raising funds to start "MJ Place". It all started off on Friday November 12th when Warriors fans were challenged to raise $1000.00 throughout the game. If it was raised, Mortimer J Moose, the Warriors beloved mascot would become Mayor of Moose Jaw for a day. Today is the lucky day.... Morty will be visiting City Hall and announcing himself as the Mayor for the day. That same night, Captain Spencer Edwards and Assistant Captain Quinton Howden tried out speed skating with a little help from the Moose Jaw Kiwanis Speed Skating Club.
The next day, Saturday November 13th the fan's raised another $1000.00 and seen Members of the Warriors staff, including Head Coach Dave Hunchak, Assistant Coach Trevor Weisgerber, Director of Business Operations Corey Nyhagen and Director of Community Relations Marnel Rasmussen were pied with a little help from the Moose Jaw Co‐op supplying all the fun at center ice post game by fans and players.
On Monday November 15th the challenge goal was $1000.00 to see Dylan McIlrath with put proof the claim that he can carry a standard sized door from Westrum Lumber‐ end to end after the game for the fans. Dylan will be showing this talent off a bit later in the month. Dylan Hood and Jesse Paradis ate the "hottest" wings Moose Jaw has to offer from Déjà Vu Café at center ice. The wings elicited tears, sweat and many cheers. A spectacular Tim Horton's inspired intermission filled with celebrity guests, including local media, sports celebrities and other popular Moose Javians raised funds for the cause. Each donut scored in a variety of events was worth $10.00 from Tim Hortons. The intermission raised $400.00
Over 200,000 Canadian men, women and children suffer from Crohn's and Colitis this painful disease. Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are the two most common forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). There are many individuals right here in Moose Jaw living with both Crohn's and Colitis. Alison Anderson, an individual living with Colitis in Moose Jaw, has a goal to raise funds to have a tranquil cabin that those affected by the disease can use to escape the tough days they face.
The cabin will be called "MJ Place", fondly named after Dr. James McHattie, the Head Gastro for the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region who has been practicing since 1976 and helping people like Alison live with Colitis. Dr. Daryl Jenkens, of the American Society of Colon Surgeons was a savoir in Alison's surgery and treatment for Colitis. If you have an interest in supporting this cause please contact Alison Anderson, 630-6167.
