Ontario Reign News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - The Ontario Reign (7-4-0-2), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, stumbled against the Utah Grizzlies (4-5-1-2) by a 4-2 score in front of a crowd of 5,655 on Saturday night at Maverik Center.
After dominating the shot totals against the Grizzlies the previous night, Ontario found itself peppered early in the first period by Utah, but goaltender Jussi Olkinuora stood tall for the Reign, notably during a breakaway stop of Alex Krushelnyski.
Following a scrap between Norm Ezekiel and Gentry Zollars, the Reign entered the offensive zone, and established a lead at 17:41 after Geoff Walker wired a pass from Tristan King past Grizzlies netminder Etienne Marcoux into the top left corner of the net. Maxim Kitsyn picked up the secondary assist.
Ontario continued its attack in the second period, as Matt Register threw the puck on net from the left circle, and it glanced off of Rocco Carzo and finally Everett Sheen into the lower right corner of the net at 13:08, for Sheen's first of the season.
Utah finally got on the board in the third period at 3:30, when Michael Pelech tipped a point shot from Jacob Johnston past Olkinuora.
Further along in the period, Brent Gwidt raced into the offensive zone while his team was shorthanded and beat Olkinuora with a snap shot to even the score for the Grizzlies at 13:20. Moments later, Utah got a two-on-none breakaway, and Alex Krushelnyski banked in Mathieu Aubin's rebound to pull ahead at 14:08.
The Grizzlies eventually put the game away after Barry Almeida sent the puck across to Howard Lenz, who buried it past Olkinuora.
Olkinuora took the loss for Ontario with 27 saves; Marcoux earned the victory with 26 stops.
