South Carolina Stingrays News Release
The South Carolina Stingrays battled the Greenville Road Warriors and Florida Everblades last week for a week record of 2-2-0-0 and an overall record 4-7-0-3.
The week started Monday evening at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena as the Stingrays visited the Greenville Road Warriors. Forwards Joey Diamond and Jack Downing each scored two goals and an assist and defenseman Lee Moffie added a goal and two assists to take down the Road Warriors 5-1. Goaltender Adam Morrison provided 38 saves in the victory.
The Stingrays kicked off a three-game in three-day weekend and five-game homestand Friday at the North Charleston Coliseum taking on the Florida Everblades with the visiting team prevailing 4-1. Forward Wayne Simpson scored the lone goal for the Stingrays. The two sides would rematch Saturday evening with the Everblades slipping away 5-4. The Stingrays claimed an early 2-0 lead behind goals from forward Joe Devin and Branded Gracel (shorthanded), but Florida responded with two tallies late in the frame to tie the contest heading into the intermission. In the second period, the Everblades pulled away with two goals 24 seconds apart. Forward Derek DeBlois registered his first professional goal and defenseman Lee Moffie added a late-game marker, but the Everblades stayed a step ahead and held on for the win. Reigning ECHL Goaltender of the Year Jeff Jakaits made his first appearance of the season, suffering the loss, and forward Rob Bellamy picked up three assists.
On Sunday, the Stingrays wrapped up the week against the Road Warriors. Diamond netted a goal and an assist and Morrison stopped all 25 Road Warriors shots for his first professional shutout in a 2-0 victory.
