Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
North Charleston, SC - Adam Morrison stopped all 25 shots he faced on Sunday as the South Carolina Stingrays (4-7-0-3) topped the Greenville Road Warriors (8-5-0-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, 2-0 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
The loss snapped Greenville's two-game winning streak and dropped the team to 3-3-0-0 against the Stingrays this season.
Following a scoreless first period, Joe Diamond opened the scoring at 14:52 of the second when the Stingrays caught Greenville in a line change. With just two Road Warriors in the neutral zone and heading to the bench, Garrett Harr sent the puck to Diamond at the blue line, who gained the zone and beat Jeff Malcolm blocker-side for his third goal of the year.
South Carolina extended its lead at 2:17 of the third period with a power play goal from Derek DeBlois. With Scott Arnold in the box for high sticking, Diamond threw a shot on net from the bottom of the right circle. Malcolm made the initial save, but the rebound fell to DeBlois who jammed it home for his second goal of the year.
With two minutes to play, the Road Warriors pulled Malcolm for the extra attacker, but the effort came up empty.
Greenville ended the game 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Malcolm (6-3-0-0) made 27 saves and suffered the loss.
The Stingrays outshot Greenville 29-25.
Greenville continues a season-long, eight-game road trip on Wednesday with an 8:15 p.m. EST puck drop against the Evansville Icemen at the Ford Center. Go to ECHL.TV to listen or watch the game live. The next home game is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 4th against Orlando.
