Mallards Fall to Beast in Overtime

BRAMPTON, Ont. (November 16, 2014) - Rob Ricci, who also had two assists, scored at 47 seconds of overtime to give the host Brampton Beast (3-5-1) a 5-4 win over the Quad City Mallards (4-3-3) Sunday. The Mallards earned one point for the sudden death defeat.

Ricci secured a come-from-behind win for the Beast by redirecting Mathew Maione's shot home.

The Brampton comeback started after Grant Rollheiser, who would make 26 saves, replaced Trevor Cann in the Beast goal at the start of the second period. Josh McQuade's tip-in just 20 seconds into the second cut what had been a 3-1 Mallard lead to a single goal. Jeff Lee put the Mallards back in front by two by scoring on the man advantage in a goalmouth scramble at 8:56. Maione responded with a wrist shot from the left wing circle just 40 seconds later. The Beast was on the power play when Jason Pitton knotted the score at four from close range at 11:43.

The Mallards had briefly taken control by ripping off three straight first period goals after Brampton's Mike MacIsaac finished off a 2-on-1 rush to open the scoring at 11:15 of the first. Justin Fox evened the score from the right wing circle at 13:42; Mario Lamoureux tipped in the tie-breaking power play goal at 18:40 and Joe Perry stretched the Mallard lead to 3-1 from the right wing circle with just 18 seconds left in the period.

The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers. Fans can purchase four tickets to any Mallards Wednesday home game for just $20. In addition, after each Wednesday home contest, fans can join the Mallards at T.G.I. Friday's on River Drive in Moline- adjacent to the iWireless Center- for a postgame party.
